Guarding Your Mind

“Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things.”  (Philippians 4:8)

We are instructed to meditate on the Word of God daily. However, often times we allow ourselves to become distracted by the enemy’s plots and schemes. The adversary’s mission is to ensnare us into believing one lie after the other about ourselves, our purpose and even our callings. Remember the enemy’s question to Eve, after she had heard from God in regards to what tree was forbidden. He posed the question, “Did God really say that?” The enemy’s stratagem was to tempt Eve to doubt what God had spoken. He wanted her to believe a lie instead of the truth. Why? Because Satan knows the truth of God transforms lives.

“And you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.”  (John 8:32)

God’s Word tells us to be, “Transformed by the renewing of our minds.” (Romans 12:2b) When we saturate ourselves in His Word, in concert with obedience and faith, we will break free from a defeated thought process. In doing battle, if anything we are pondering or believing goes against the Word of God, we are told to, “Take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ.” (2 Corinthians 10:4-5)  This is how we guard our minds.

While difficult times send many conflicting messages, God’s Word brings calm in the midst of confusion. We must set our minds on Jesus and His wonderful promises while taking captive every thought that goes against His Word.

“Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth.” (Colossians 3:2)

The greatest battle we will ever fight is the battle of the mind. So gird up and get ready and refuse to allow the enemy to influence your thoughts. Instead, allow Jesus Christ to control you. Remember, you will walk according to your mind set.

Prayer: Lord, help me to keep You as the center of my thoughts by daily meditating on Your Word. Please keep anything from exercising high influence in my mind that goes against Your truth. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

“And that you be renewed in the spirit of your mind.”  (Ephesians 4:23)

  1. God gave us our minds. He wants us to guard what goes in them. We need to turn away from so much that we hear and see in this world full of phones, televisions, and movies. Yes, he gave us the inventive, creative minds to develop these items. We must insist they be used for good.
